Structural steel welding

What structural steel welding covers

Structural steel welding is the joining of load-carrying steel members — beams, columns, braces, joists, and plates — so they act as one engineered frame. Unlike decorative or general repair welding, every structural weld has a specified size, type, and location on the engineer's drawings, and it has to match them.

Our crews handle the full range of structural connections: fillet and groove welds, complete- and partial-joint-penetration welds, moment connections, shear tabs, gusset plates, and column splices. We prep, fit, and weld to the project's specified welding code — on most DFW structural work that's AWS D1.1 — and we coordinate with your inspector when special inspection is required.

FAQ

Structural Steel Welding: common questions

What welding code do you follow for structural steel?

We weld to whatever code and details your engineer specifies. For most structural steel buildings in Texas that's AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code – Steel, with connection details from the approved structural drawings.

Can you weld from my engineer's drawings or shop drawings?

Yes. Send the structural sheets or approved shop drawings with your quote request and we'll price the work from the actual connection details, weld sizes, and quantities.

Do you do both shop and field welding?

Yes. Many projects mix both — members are fabricated and partially welded in the shop, then final connections are welded in the field after erection.

Will my project need a special inspection?

Many commercial structural welds require third-party special inspection under the building code. Your engineer or the city will specify it; we schedule our work so the inspector can check welds as they're completed.

How quickly can you start?

Start dates depend on scope, material lead times, and current schedule. Tell us your target date in the quote form and we'll confirm what's realistic.
